Production Updates - FMP

5/04/2014 - test shoot
Today I played around with the camera I will be using (Cannon Hx1) and tested some shots with different lighting. Outside in the day with natural lighting, outside in the evening with studio lighting and inside with no lighting. As I had a few problems with sound on my last shoot I also tested the external mic and decided to bring another recording devise in case.

On the first shoot I was filming my 3rd scene of my main character searching the town trying to find people. As it was half term the town was very busy and we struggled making sure we got no one else in the shot. This was the only problems we had for this scene and technical wise everything went well. We then went to Althorne station and filmed scene 2 which was the main character waiting for a train. Both creatively and technically the scene went well. The last scene we shot this day was my main character sitting in a park. Again for this shot we struggled to keep members of the public out of shot. In post production I will have to chose the footage where she in the only one in shot and cut out the sound of the public and add a backing track.

Dogs

This shoot was only for one scene but this scene recurs the most throughout the film and has to look the most professional. This scene features my main character running through woods being chased by two figures dressed in black. It was a sunny day so the lighting looked good and we didn't have any problems with rain. We got some good shots and managed to get some Ariel shots from trees. I also needed to shoot a scene where a dog runs up to the main character and runs off into the woods. We had to shoot this scene several times as it was hard to get the dog in the right positions. Eventually we got the shot we were hoping for.

This was the main shoot where we were filming nearly all other scenes. We had a few problems with background noise but decided they could be edited out in post-production.

22/04/2014 - 1st Edit
Today I uploaded all my footage, labeled and looked through all my clips. I was happy with most of the shots I got but decided to arrange one more shoot day to get the final shoots I needed. I also needed a few hours shooting in the studio for my final scene.

25/04/2014 - 2nd Edit
Today I cut together my first 3 scenes and woods montage. I was very happy with my cuts and also colour corrected all scenes. I also cut the sound of footage I wouldn't be needing and fixed any audio problems in the scene I've edited together.

30/04/2014 - 3rd edit
Today I edited together scenes 4 and 5. Again I am happy with shots I have. Today I booked out my kit for my last shot and booked out the studio.

02/05/2014 - 4th edit
Today I edited together my following scenes. I also added in my opening credits, at the moment they are simple white text ontop of my footage so I think I will export a few clips into after effects add the titles there to make it look more professional

Today I used the photography studio in college. The studio is all white with halogen lights so it gives a great set as an operating theatre for my final scene. I have never used the studio before so it took a while to get use to the lights and getting the filters and white balance right on the camera. Once we had the lighting adjusted we set up the camera. This shot was particularly fun as the camera was being used as point-of-view of my main character so we got to try out different angles with the camera to make it look like a patient was lying on a hospital bed. As we couldn't actually build a set to look like an operating theatre, the whole scene had to take place in this perspective so the shots needed to be sharp and professional. I am very happy with the footage we captured today.
I also went back to some locations I had preciously shot at with my main character to try and improve some of the footage we already had. I put the footage on to my phone and bought my notes along to ensure I got the shots I would be happy with.

9/05/2014 - Sound Edit
Today I was mixing together some of the non-diegetic sound to set the scene and give my film ambience. I used After Effects for sound effects such as doors closing and footsteps

I then exported them and imported them into Final Cut where I balanced the levels to ensure the whole film was even.

13/05/2014 - Final Edit
Today I finished my final edit including sound and credits. I am very happy with my final cut but I may adapt a few parts when getting opinions from my tutors.
